Giro d'Italia 2026 S15: Uno-X Rider Wins from the Breakaway as GC Teams Stay Out of the Sprint
On May 24, Stage 15 of the 2026 Giro d'Italia (Voghera–Milan) concluded after 157 kilometers of racing, featuring a single intermediate sprint. As the final stage before the second rest day, the peloton adopted a conservative approach, allowing an early breakaway plenty of freedom.
Four riders from Team Polti, Bardiani-CSF, and Uno-X Mobility formed the day's breakaway and quickly built a lead of more than six minutes. Behind them, Paul Magnier and Jhonatan Narváez battled for valuable sprint points, intensifying the fight for the ciclamino jersey.
Due to safety concerns, race organizers announced a time freeze for the general classification once riders entered the Milan city circuit. This decision reduced the motivation of GC teams to chase the breakaway.
With 20 kilometers remaining, the escape group still held a 20-second advantage. Despite several teams organizing a pursuit, they were unable to close the gap, leaving the stage victory to be decided among the four breakaway riders.
Inside the final 300 meters, Uno-X rider Dversnes launched his sprint first and successfully held off Polti’s Masti to claim an impressive breakaway victory. The peloton arrived shortly afterward, serving merely as the backdrop to a successful escape.

Giro d'Italia 2026 S16: Vingegaard Dominates Cari Climb After Visma's Mountain Train
On May 26, Stage 16 (Bellinzona–Cari) covered 113 kilometers and featured multiple climbs, including the decisive summit finish at Cari.
A 13-man breakaway formed early, featuring Giulio Ciccone, Jhonatan Narváez, Einer Rubio, and other climbing specialists. Narváez collected valuable sprint points to move within two points of the ciclamino jersey, while Ciccone continued his pursuit of mountain points.
Before the final ascent of Cari (11.7 km at 7.9%), the peloton reeled in all breakaway riders. Decathlon AG2R, Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe, and Team Visma | Lease a Bike then increased the pace, turning the stage into a battle among the GC contenders. Bahrain Victorious riders Giulio Pellizzari and Damiano Caruso were among the first to crack.
After his teammates completed another powerful mountain-train effort, Jonas Vingegaard attacked with 6.6 kilometers remaining. No rider could follow. Derek Gee, Felix Gall, Thymen Arensman, and Jai Hindley formed a chase group but never threatened the Dane.
Vingegaard soloed to victory, extending his overall lead. Gall finished second, while Arensman took third. Meanwhile, Piganzoli significantly reduced his deficit in the battle for the white jersey.

Giro d'Italia 2026 S17: Veteran Valgren Launches Late Attack for Stage Victory
On May 27, Stage 17 (Cassano–Andalo) covered 202 kilometers and featured three Category 3 climbs and one intermediate sprint.
A massive 29-rider breakaway formed early, including Jhonatan Narváez and Giulio Ciccone. With Team Visma firmly controlling the general classification, the peloton allowed the move to gain more than five minutes.
After over 140 kilometers of racing, the breakaway gradually split apart. Narváez collected crucial sprint points to take over the ciclamino jersey, while Ciccone continued to add mountain points.
With only eight riders left in contention for victory, EF Education–EasyPost veteran Michael Valgren launched a surprise attack 1.1 kilometers from the finish. His rivals reacted too late, allowing the Danish rider to hold on for a memorable solo win.
Valgren celebrated the victory by pulling a green badge from his pocket as he crossed the line.

Giro d'Italia 2026 S18: Magnier Reclaims the Ciclamino Jersey
On May 28, Stage 18 (Paganella–Soligo) covered 171 kilometers and featured two climbs and one intermediate sprint, offering one of the final opportunities for the sprinters.
Four riders escaped early, but Lidl–Trek kept the gap under control throughout the day. Bahrain Victorious leader Giulio Pellizzari suffered a crash during a feed-zone exchange but was able to rejoin the peloton without serious consequences.
As expected, the breakaway was caught before the finale. Sprint teams then battled fiercely for positioning. Pellizzari attempted a late attack on the final climb, but the peloton quickly neutralized the move.
Inside the final kilometer, Soudal Quick-Step executed a textbook lead-out. Magnier was delivered perfectly into the last 200 meters and unleashed a powerful sprint to take the stage victory.
The 50 points earned from the win allowed Magnier to regain the ciclamino jersey and build a 37-point advantage, putting him in a commanding position for the points classification.

Giro d'Italia 2026 S19: Kuss Strikes Late to Win the Queen Stage
On May 29, Stage 19 (Feltre–Alleghe) featured 151.8 kilometers, five categorized climbs, and over 5,000 meters of elevation gain.
More than 20 riders joined the breakaway, including mountain classification contender Giulio Ciccone, Team Visma’s Sepp Kuss, and Bahrain’s Damiano Caruso. With Vingegaard holding a comfortable lead in the general classification, the peloton maintained a controlled chase.
Ciccone aggressively hunted mountain points and launched a solo attack before the final climb. However, his repeated efforts proved costly.
Inside the final five kilometers, Kuss and Pellizzari bridged across to the Italian. With two kilometers remaining, Kuss surged past Ciccone and rode clear.
The American crossed the line 15 seconds ahead of Derek Gee to secure his first Grand Tour stage victory in three years. Ciccone finished third but successfully defended his lead in the mountains classification.
In the white jersey competition, Pellizzari struggled and lost 1 minute 14 seconds to Piganzoli, reducing his advantage to just 1 minute 03 seconds.

Giro d'Italia 2026 S20: Vingegaard Clinches Giro Title with Dominant Summit Finish
On May 30, Stage 20 (Friuli–Piancavallo) delivered the final decisive mountain showdown of the 2026 Giro d'Italia. The 200-kilometer stage included three climbs and one intermediate sprint.
Six riders formed the day's breakaway and collected the available mountain and sprint points. Since none posed a threat in the general classification, Team Visma | Lease a Bike controlled the race at a steady pace.
Everything came down to the final ascent of Piancavallo (14.5 km at 7.8%). Visma's mountain train shattered the peloton, isolating the remaining GC contenders. Jonas Vingegaard then launched a decisive attack. Only Felix Gall briefly attempted to follow before settling into his own pace to secure second place overall.
Vingegaard quickly caught the breakaway riders and rode solo to the summit victory, officially sealing the overall title. The triumph completed his Grand Tour triple crown, adding the Giro d'Italia to his previous victories at the Tour de France and Vuelta a España.
After the finish, Vingegaard praised his teammates for their efforts over the three weeks and dedicated the victory to the entire Visma squad.
