Revealed! What's different about the 2024 Tour de France winning bikes？

As the 2024 Tour de France comes to a close, there's now a chance to get a look at Colnago, Specialized and Cannondale, custom bikes designed specifically for the winners that aren't for sale to the public. The final stage of the Tour de France provides an opportunity for brands to show off their customized bikes. Although this year's final stage was a time trial, the winners still showed off their unique customized versions of their road bikes as well as their top-of-the-line carbon wheelsets. Here's a look at these fabulous bikes they rode.

Pogačar: Colnago V4RS

 

There's no rider quite like Tadej Pogačar, and there's no bike quite like the Colnago V4RS. ...... except the pink bike on which he won the Giro d'Italia.

Colnago's V4RS road bike is the only one used by the UAE team for road racing. However, the eagle-eyed may have noticed thatPogačar rode a limited edition Colnago C68 at the opening ceremony, priced at 23,000 euros (about $24,970).

The kit is Shimano's Dura-Ace R9200, and Pogačar uses a Carbon Ti 54-40T sprocket and 11-34 flywheel.

The brake discs and thru-axles are also Carbon-Ti.

 

The handlebars are Enve's SES AR one-piece unibody handlebars, which retail for $1,200, but despite the price tag, perhaps the most striking feature is the Cartoon Hulk sticker. The Slovenian rider also opted for the yellow-wrapped Wahoo Elemnt Bolt V2.

 

Pogačar uses Shimano Dura-Ace pedals, Elite Legerro Carbon bottle cages (weighing in at 17 grams each), and a customized Prologo saddle with graphics of some of his famous victories.

I'd like to recommend Superteam's Ultra Series carbon wheelsets: with their distinctive “shark fin” and wave rims, extra-wide 5.2mm carbon spokes, and precision ratcheting hubs weighing in at just 1,385 grams per pair, they're the perfect choice for riding.

 

Gilmay: Cube Litening C:68X Aero

Biniam Girmay became the first African cyclist to win the Tour de France standings.He is 33 points clear of Belgian Jasper Philipsen.

Intermarché-Wanty riders can choose between the Cube Litening Air C:68X or the Litening C:68X Aero.

As a fast finisher, Girmay chose the latter. It's no surprise that this bike won stages, and it definitely rides fast when speeds are in the teens of miles per hour or higher.

Girmay uses the Prologo handlebar tape, which is very popular among pro cycling teams, as well as a Bryton Rider S800 code meter.

 

All of the jersey winners' bikes use Shimano kit. This is a change from previous years, when SRAM-sponsored teams certainly didn't use them.

 Like Pogačar, Girmay is using Continental GP5000 TT tires.

 

Carapez : Cannondale SuperSix EVO Lab 71

 

EF Education Easy-Post's Richard Carapez was crowned King of the Climbs at this year's Tour de France.

The EF Education-EasyPost team is known for having some of the loudest bikes and equipment in the professional cycling ranks. Carapez, the reigning Olympic champion, swapped his gold Cannondale SuperSix Evo Lab71 for a polka-dot version, which also received mixed reviews.

 

The U.S. team uses a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 kit, with Full Speed Ahead (FSA) providing the sprocket.

It looks like Carapaz has ditched the double-sided clamping technology in favor of Aero Wahoo Speedplay pedals to get some benefit, and he's using the same Elite Legerro Carbon bottle cages as Bogacha.

 

The bikes come with Cannondale's SystemBar R-One handlebars, designed in collaboration with MomoDesign, in a raw carbon finish.

Carapaz also uses the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt V2 with polka-dot decals, and the wheels are shod with Vittoria's Corsa Pro 28mm tires in a tubeless design.

Evenepoel: Specialized S Works Tarmac SL8

Soudal Quick-Step driver Remco Evenepoel, on a customized Specialized S Works Tarmac SL8, won the Young Driver category.

He's a Specialized signature.His bike, carbon wheelset, tires, seat, handlebars, helmet and shoes are all sponsored by Specialized.

The tires are now old, and the team uses Specialized's S-Works Turbo Cotton open-cell tires with latex inner tubes.

Remco may have conquered most of the mountain stages on his unpainted S-Works Tarmac SL8 - one of the lightest bikes in the pro ranks - but he opted for the custom-painted chrome bike seen in Dauphiné to conquer the flatter stages.

Overall: Those who make it to the Tour de France use top-of-the-line bike components. Frames, handlebars, carbon wheels...

It's expensive, but the prize money is high.
