While the direction of Grand Tour pros is not indicative of all trends, there is something to be said for the fact that something is becoming the choice of more and more riders. Tire choices in particular have become more varied in recent years, but more riders are choosing vacuum tire configurations.

A vacuum tire is a kind of tire without an inner tube, its inner wall has a layer of rubber sealing layer about 2 to 3 mm thick, and a layer of unvulcanized rubber with a special mixture made of self-adhesive layer, to ensure that the tire and the rim between the good airtight. The most important feature of this type of tire is that it does not use an inner tube, the vacuum tire eliminates the installation of an inner tube and is filled with a self-repairing liquid so that smaller punctures encountered while riding can be when the tire is punctured by glass, thorns, rocks, or other debris, the internal pressure pushes the sealant out and almost immediately seals the puncture to the place, in a sense the vacuum tire is more puncture-resistant than the open tire. Since there is no inner tube, there is no risk of a blowout with too low tire pressure, so lowering the tire pressure appropriately can result in better comfort.

Let's talk about the advantages of vacuum tires:

1. Ride comfort
Tubeless setups are typically lighter than similar open-ended tires because they eliminate the inner tube. This reduces the overall weight of the bike. Riders can also run lower air pressure in tubeless tires compared to open-ended tires, having a more comfortable ride with better grip by reducing tire pressure. When tires are at lower pressures, they adapt better to the terrain.
2. Reduced likelihood of flat tires
Because sealants can handle minor punctures, a flat tire is much less likely. Tubeless sealants are limited in what they can seal, so sealants are not effective in all situations. Whether you ride a mountain bike, gravel bike, or road bike, it's a good idea to carry a repair kit that includes traditional tubes. (The case scenario for tubeless tires is to stuff an inner tube with an open tire in it)
3. Rolling resistance
Because the lack of an inner tube eliminates friction between the inner and outer tires, road tubeless tires have lower rolling resistance than open and tube tires. This allows you to ride more easily.

Of course, there are some disadvantages of vacuum tires:
1. Difficulty in mounting
Installing tubeless tires requires patience and can be a bit of a pain the first time around, but once it's done, it gets easier. You have to get the rim, the sealant, and the valve all sealed, and the tubeless tire valve has a removable spool through which the sealant is injected.
2. Higher cost
Since open-ended tires are more developed, vacuum tires seem to be a bit more expensive relative to price, but once you use tubeless tires, you'll have less trouble later on.
3. Spool clogging
Unlike open and tubular tires, tubeless tires require valve-core maintenance. Since the sealant is injected around it through your valve, it can sometimes become sticky and clogged. Typically, you should clean the valve core any time you add sealant.

People have been using open-ended and tubular tires for 100 years, and it's safe to say that the technology has matured considerably. After all, tubeless tires aren't 100% guaranteed to save you from a flat. However, tubeless road bike tires offer better puncture protection, less weight, and lower rolling resistance, resulting in a more comfortable and controlled riding experience. While mountain bikers and gravel bikers flocked to tubeless tires a few years ago, many in road cycling are also seeing the benefits of fewer blowouts, lower pressure, and a better overall riding experience.
